But, right now, not enough of our youth have access to quality STEM learning opportunities and too few students see these disciplines as springboards for their careers.

 

Zimbabwe enjoys a leading position in literacy in Africa. This is a testament to our effect education system in primary and secondary education. However, too few of our youth are taking up science subjects at advanced level. Consequently, the drawing people for universities offering STEM courses such as engineering and computing has grown progressively smaller over the years.

There is solid evidence that the fastest growing and highest earning jobs in future will be in STEM fields, and employees and employers will need to utilise STEM skills in problem-solving in a wide range of industries, to address issues of unemployment, empower the young, promote innovation and industrialisation of the economy.
